On the SoundExchange "Reports of Use Delivery Specifications"

Chapter 6: Conclusions

It is possible for a station to create SoundExchange Reports Of Use, provided:

  • they start some form of electronic playlist recordkeeping, ASAP
  • they take into account the nine mandatory variabled per entry we identified in the previous sections
  • they take into account the ATH calculation process described here and in our other article
  • they read, re-read, and then re-read again the Reports Of Use spec put out by SoundExchange to the point that you understand what must be reported, and how
  • they have a technical staff willing and able to perform the above tasks
  • Having said that: we're pretty technical folks, and this process took us a while to figure all this out. The bar has been raised significantly, but not to the level of complete impossibility, which is why we wanted to document our findings here. We hope we can save someone else some time.

We have already identified several key areas where further assistance and tools are needed, and we're working to create these tools and release them to the webcasting community. In the course of doing so, we welcome your feedback.
